Do I Play Emo Folk Rock?

I'm not Emo, am I?
I have been hanging out with some friends over the last few days. One of my friends told me that he finished listening to my last CD, More Whatever, and he said it was some type of emo folk rock. Emo? Emo, I can't play emo can I?

My life is great! How can I write emo songs? First what is emo music? Doing a web search on google, emo is emotional music which is emotionally-charged in pretty much any style of music. Ok, so do I write songs that are emotional, yeah. But haven't all of the rock and rollers been doing this since the beginning of rock? Didn't my favorite rocker Buddy Holly write emotional songs too? What about the Beatles or Hall and Oates?

So if by emo you mean I write songs about life, then I'm emo. How can I write songs that aren't full of emotions? Am I a Vulcan? Pick me do I bleed green blood? No.

I know that I can't really sing that well. My guitar playing is fine, but there are many others that can play guitar a lot better. But that doesn't matter. I'm a rock and roller. When I'm on stage you can hear my soul, I try to never hold anything back.

I figured a long time ago that if I held anything back, I wouldn't be true to myself, my art or my fans. So everytime I write a song, I'm using my life experience to write that perfect song. The only way for me to compete with folks that can really sing is to sing my heart out. And I do this each and everytime I'm on stage. This way I can hang with the icons that came before me and my friends that can really sing great.

Emo, Herbert is emo? No I'm a rock and roller and if some of my songs sound like they are emo, then there it is.

And by the way, I schooled Stupid Dufus on Dr. Mario on the gameboy when New Type was in town. I rock and roll and I'm the man at Dr. Mario! I can't be emo!!!!!

Happy Boxing Day 2005

I rule at Star Raiders!
Happy Boxing Day everyone! Today many of you all are returning gifts or looking for 90% off sales. To me I want to rest and think about the fun that I had when I was a kid.

The one video game that I loved was Star Raiders! I played it every holiday when I was younger. It was commanding a starship, it was in many ways a flight simulator for when I would take command of my own starship. My shield are down and I have three more fighters to face or the starbase would be destroyed! Just like in real life as a starship commander.

I have played a lot of other video games like Star Raiders, none of them can touch the game play. I wish a good game programmer would make a clone of Star Raiders with up to date graphics. Until then, I guess I will have to play it on my old Atari 800 XL that I got for Christmas back in the 80's.

I wished that Star Raiders was like Dr. Mario and had a two person mode. Can you believe that I have a friend that thinks she can beat me at Dr. Mario? I will show her who is the master of Dr. Mario! And SD, I am the man at the Gameboy version of Dr. Mario. I play it every day!

Merry Christmas from me to you!
I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. To me Christmas is a time to spend with family and friends. This year I am so happy to see my family and hang out with some great friends that I haven't seen in while.

I hope that you have been good and get what you want. Remember wanting isn't the same as having, it's not logical but it's often true. How many times have you wanted a toy and played with the box instead? I bet you all have had great times with the cardboard boxes, using your imaginations to invent worlds that you can never buy.

Right now in my life, I don't want or need any material possessions. I want or need nothing that money can buy. If all of my family and friends are happy and healthy, that is what is important. You also can't buy all the fun that I have making music and writing.

Fall 2005 (It's over)

This sums up my semester.
I'm trying to figure stuff out.
If only my tricorder was working.
This was the roller coaster semester. It was the coolest semester ever and the saddest one too. Rita made everything a bit crazy, I never felt like we got too behind but I did miss having that extra week. It is hard to teach when people are worried about their families because of the hurricane. I understand.



I also met some great people and got to hang out with some old friends too. I had a lot of fun rocking at Rita's. I have a lot great material to write about for a long time. All I can say is stay tune for more songs and plays! I hope one day someone will see one of my plays live. Next year I'm going to have to film one instead of doing so many sci-fi films.




The Guitar Class in action. I'm ready to Rock!

Well as my tradition, I'll pick the class I had the most fun in, this year it is the Guitar class. We all had a great time and had a lot of fun. I hope that all the guitarist will continue to practice and one day come out and play open mike night! Right hand floats, you all!

I the 350 was a runner up. It is always hard to get a group of non-music majors to make music, but some how they always can at the end of the semester. Ladies, I wish you all well when you are teaching and you may hear my voice like Master Yoda, when you need to integrate music in your lesson plans. The question of the day is....

The 460 rocked this year. We only met for 15 weeks, but man we got a lot done this year. The class made a CD, music video and a webpage to promote the CD. Rock and Roll! I post links in a few weeks.

I love teaching the Rock class. It is so hard to get anyone to talk in a class this big. The last month of class, I had some great comments. I only wish the whole semester could've been full of great debate. I don't want to be the only one talking!

Making beats is fun!

The 362 class is fun to teach. Everyone wants to be a producer. At the end of the course, most folks realize how hard it is to make a song. To make a song that is illin', is 1,000,000,000 times harder!! It is hard to make a classic like the "I'm a Nerd" song.

I wish all of my friends that take the classes that teach well. I hope you notice I said friends, I don't think of people that listen to me talk for 15 weeks as students. We are all friends and I hope that they got something out of the class. If not, I hope that they have learn something about themselves.
