Merry-Go-Around

Merry-Go-Around

Merry-Go-Around

The last few years of life have reminded me how it was to ride a merry-go-round as a child. You grab the rails, run as fast as possible, and then jump on, hoping that you do not get ill. And as the merry-go-round slows down, you repeat the first steps.

Finally, something different is occurring in your mundane life. Which, at some point, that becomes ordinary. Then the cycle repeats.

In this amazing modern technological era, people still get bored. The wealth of the Internet in both entertainment and education is available with a few clicks in the search. And still, humanity gets bored.

Imagine the world without the Internet today. If, for some unknown reason, the Internet is completely eliminated from our lives, how strange would that be for the majority dependent on this technology? For some, they would be so lost without the Internet, they would go into deep despair.

Maybe the Internet would return in the near future. But when it does not, at some point, humanity would just have to move on. Perhaps humanity will discover books and television again. Maybe some other kind of technology Internet would develop over time. Once society has the Internet, can they ever live without it?

In our lifetimes, the Internet will continue to exist. It will morph into something that will not resemble what it is today. Being able to do things that are unimaginable at the moment. Fifty years from now, the Internet will be unrecognizable.

For humanity to survive, human interaction will have to be a part of it. Conceivably, humanity will find a way to balance technology and humanity. In a not too distant future, every person alive will be connected on the Internet. It will be up to us collectively to make sure this is positive for the masses. Vigilance is the price we pay for freedom and knowledge. Humanity must consider a future that is unpredictable at the moment. Diligence in our actions today will set the path for the future.
