Why It Is So Hard To Be A Teacher?

Why It Is So Hard To Be A Teacher?

Teaching is a great job for many. It is a calling. You have to want to be a teacher. Few teachers are in the field for a paycheck. It is a passion that calls you to dream, think, and live the role of an educator. Time and time again, you are figuring out ways to teach a topic your students do not quite understand. That is the amazing part of being a teacher. This is why those who love teaching teach.

However, as the world knows, teaching is also challenging. Long hours with low pay lead to teacher burnout and apathy. Young teachers, full of energy, often leave the field after a few years. Many new teachers quit after the first year, and more leave after five years in the teaching profession. This high turnover showcases the challenging aspects of a public school teacher.

When you see a young person playing a video game with all this passion and focus, imagine that same intensity being utilized in a classroom. Think of all the subjects they could learn and become skilled at if they had the same drive with their studies as entertainment. Perhaps the key to improving public school education is allowing students to select their educational journey. One reason why YouTube is so popular is that you can pick what you want to watch when you want to watch it. This could be incorporated into public school education. Offering diverse subjects for all students to find an area where they can thrive. When a student is busy working on a project that they are passionate about, discipline problems disappear, and students cannot wait to attend school. Imagine students begging to go to school because they cannot wait to learn the subjects they are passionate about. Imagine teachers dreading summer vacation because our students want to learn so passionately. Today, with all the technology available, many of these solutions could be incorporated into public schools.

Can public schools become bastions of inquiry, creativity, and learning? Schools could transform into institutions that young people would request to remain open during holidays and weekends. Instead of forcing students to learn subjects, they could be free to pick areas they are passionate about and flourish. Educators, you can dream big for your students and yourself. Teaching can become a job so desired that there will be a surplus of teachers for every position. Today is the day to take responsibility and improve education for all students and teachers.
